Is Laser vision correction good for you?

Is Laser vision correction good for you? / LASIK NEWS/ Advances in LASIK

The world of ophthalmology [optical and medical care of the eyes] is one of the fastest evolving fields of medicine. A host of new procedures such as LASIK now offers millions of people the opportunity to see without the use of glasses or contact lenses. LASIK, short for “laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis” is a method of treating nearsightedness, far-sightedness and astigmatism. It has been practised in our country for the last 6 to 7 years. As with other procedures this too has undergone great advances. New lasers and advances in technique offer the highest degree of accuracy and utmost safety. The latest advancement in the LASIK procedure is wavefront-guided LASIK. Wavefront LASIK compatible lasers use high-speed sensitive eye trackers to ensure perfectly accurate treatments. Wavefront procedures very often leave patients with eyesight better than normal. In addition the best candidates tend to be those who have undergone older techniques of vision correction and have been dissatisfied with the results. This is a permanent treatment. However, patients who are 40 years and above may require reading glasses. Millions of patients worldwide have had LASIK done on them successfully.

Dr Anand Shroff, who has been a pioneer in Wavefront technology in India, says, “ With Wavefront guided LASIK and using newer advanced modalities, catering to the requirement of the patient’s visual needs, it has now become possible to treat a larger spectrum of patients. This procedure particularly helps to have clear vision in dim light, which would have otherwise been difficult with the older procedures. Furthermore, those who have been unhappy with any form of vision correction are candidates for Wavefront guided LASIK. With this procedure it is now possible to give our patents customised treatments”.
