LASIK Retreatment

Regarding the 2nd treatment…you had mentioned that the flap doesn’t need to be made again since it was already made in the 1st treatment. However, doesn’t this flap ‘fuse’ back during the healing process, requiring you to make a new flap for the 2nd treatment?

Ans The flap ‘fuses’ or heals in few hours itself, and completely by the end of the week. The doctors have specific equipment to help them ‘lift’ this flap and also use a powerful ophthalmic microscope to aid them in this. I can understand that your fear is that it could get ‘lifted easily’ if rubbed hard etc. This is only in the initial recovery period not later

The clinic will cover the cost of the 2nd treatment, even if I undergo this after a year?

If you have a power post LASIK in the first year itself, then yes. We include the re treatment fees for the year post LASIK. We may charge a nominal fee if the power comes after few years.

You mentioned that it is advisable to wear computer specific glasses after my Lasik treatment. I don’t see any of my friends who have undergone Lasik wear glasses while working on the computer. Can you please explain this to me… From what I understand, my vision will be 20/20 or better. What would the power of my glasses be if I have perfect vision?

Which is why when they may visit an optometrist, there maybe a shift in 0.5D or 0.75D. This shift is usually not noticed by many, and does not bother routine work.

But it is well documented that computers work for long hours, continuously, does cause a shift in myopia. And genuine computer glasses are + powered, not a marketing gimmick of ‘zero powered and anti reflective’.

If I need the 2nd treatment, I would have to wear glasses between the 1st and 2nd treatment, is that right? This glasses would have to have a prescription suited to my new power?

Yes, but usually we have not seen powers above -0.75 D to -1.00 D where the dependency for such glasses remains only while driving.

If a 2nd treatment is needed, I wanted to confirm that it is indeed OK to wait a year after the 1st treatment.

Yes, that is fine. We have even treated few cases, from other clinics, 2-3 years post their LASIK treatment. Like I mentioned, if at all the issue arises in this period, it is that we cannot ‘lift’ the flap, then we do not, but work more superficially with procedure like PRK. This only means a little longer recovery of about 4 days instead of one day post treatment. But the remnant power gets treated.
