In India, LASIK cost varies from centre to centre being as low as Rs 5,000/- per eye to as high as over a lakh of rupees. Many laser centers typically use older technology that is far cheaper with minimal medical safety protocols and quality control. People expect that fees should be somewhere between Rs 25,000/- to Rs 45,000/- . What they fail to understand is that some centres may charge you this for very poorly maintained lasers, re-use disposables and do not have the expertise to deal with complications. In a surgery where tests like HIV are not done for patients, it becomes extremely important to tread with caution when choosing a LASIK centre.

Cost of LASIK will vary from centre to centre, and this is determined by what technology and expertise of the surgeon they offer you.

The test are done for 2 things, one for the quantitative part, which is to determine if you will achieve 20/20 or 6/6 vision or not, and more importantly the qualitative part, which determines if this procedure is safe for you esp in the future. These tests include wavefront analysis with an aberrometer, pupil size checking for night vision issues, dry eye test, topography test, corneal thickness etc.

You might get a deeply discounted fee at some center, but only by agreeing to lesser technology, less surgeon involvement, and much less follow up care with more importantly not-so desired results. You might visit a center offering a very low price for LASIK. But don’t be surprised if your fee climbs steeply once you’ve been evaluated, and treatment then is itemized. And more importantly, in most cases, your surgeon won’t be the one doing your evaluation, the single most important step to accuracy in treatment as this step collects the data for the laser treatment!

Your sight is too important to take unnecessary risks.

Since it involves your eyes, I would request you to not consider price as the sole deciding factor. You will be misled with this.

There are many laser centers in India charging as low as Rs 7,000/- per eye for LASIK which one may end up paying more than Rs 50,000/- for both eyes in other centers with the exact same laser technology!

Many end up paying far more than what it is valid for older laser technology, esp in India since not many do technology based research, but just compare prices assuming that the treatment is the same in all centers.
