Clear Vision for aging eyes minus reading glasses

As we grow older, many start to experience failing vision. But a path breaking new lens matched with an established procedure is helping to restore clear vision.

Dr. Anand Shroff has been implanting multi-focal lenses since they were approved many years ago. “A lot of people as they get into their 50s or 60s, even if they had LASIK (laser eye surgery) earlier in life, are unable to read without glasses at this age in their lives.” This is an age related process called ‘Presbyopia”, unavoidable in one and all. That’s where multi-focal lenses come in, making reading minus glasses possible, while also improving vision of middle and far distances. Multi-focals can conquer all distance challenges.

“People who love the driving, watching movies and also love to read, now do not need to carry reading glasses,” Shroff said. “With multi-focal lenses you will be free from that nuisance.

A no – stress relaxed and modern procedure, the pain-free surgery lasts about 15 minutes. Using a small incision of 3mm’s, the natural lens is replaced with a foldable multi-focal lens, which makes this procedure stitch less. These procedures involve just a day care admission of few hours and a very simple post procedure care and follow up.

Right away patients can see far and near, and every day vision improves.

The surgery for the second eye is usually scheduled a week or two after the first, although some find it comfortable to undergo the second eye within 3-4 days as well. The full benefit of the procedure won’t occur until both eyes are treated. The process is much like the cataract procedure with the added advantage that the person will never develop a cataract in future.

The lens itself is the technological breakthrough. Dr Shroff said most patients say it was the best investment of their lives.

Testimonial of MrJohn Singh…

Very Good NO! ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT is what it is having worn glasses for over 40 years. Post op was like being a child with a brand new toy, But being told not to play with it immediately. The temptation was so hard to resist. And since then its been a non-stop assault on the all seeing outside world, shouting out the comparisons of vision as if it only belonged to ones self, sharing with anybody & everybody the experience, freedom without prescription distortion, the confidence in going for a swim, relaxing behind ordinary sunglasses. At over 50 years of age reading is more comfortable than ever before. I use to dread driving in the twilight hours, huge halos from the car lights. Before the procedure, I had such a low and sensitive reaction to anything regarding my eyes, that even administering eye drops was a full frontal assault, and now I put my own drops in and that makes a difference, that is what this procedure has brought in my life…confidence!. Many people can be candidates for multi-focal lenses, whether in their 70s and having trouble reading or a young 40 year-old with an early appearance of cataract. Even people with high risk factors for surgery such as diabetes or high blood pressure can undergo the surgery. As people age, their natural lens has already experienced changes, making multi-focal implants the better choice. As patients get older, poor vision is one less thing to worry about after surgery. “Finding your glasses in the dark, visiting the bathroom in the night etc are daily routine for some and this is where as you age your dependence on such visual aids is greatly reduced, Dr Shroff said. “Especially since most of the urgent or immediate work is near work like reading a label, reading the time, seeing a receipt, signing a cheque or reading a menu card in a restaurant, it feels great not to need your reading glasses to do so”.
